MalCare Review 2026: WordPress Security Plans Compared
Disclosure: we may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. This never changes our verdict. How we make money.
MalCare is a WordPress security plugin from the team behind BlogVault. It scans for malware on its own servers (so scans don't slow your site), adds a firewall and login protection, and on higher plans removes malware automatically.
Quick verdict
Best for: WordPress site owners and agencies who want malware cleanup included, not billed per incident. Skip it if: your site is not on WordPress, or you only need a basic free firewall.
Key features
- Server-side malware scanner and one-click malware removal (Repair and Fortify plans).
- WordPress firewall, bot protection and geo-blocking.
- Login protection and two-factor authentication.
- Vulnerability scanner with virtual patching.
- Activity log (Repair and Fortify).
Pricing (billed yearly)
| Plan | 1 site | 5 sites | Scan frequency | Malware cleanup |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | - | Every 7 days | No |
| Protect | $99/yr | $299/yr | Every 24 hours | No |
| Repair (recommended) | $299/yr | $899/yr | Every 12 hours | Automated cleanup + report |
| Fortify | $499/yr | $1,499/yr | Every hour | Cleanup + unlimited manual fixes |
All paid plans renew automatically each year. MalCare offers refunds within 14 days of purchase, except when it has already cleaned malware on your site in that period. Agencies managing 10+ sites can ask for agency pricing.
Pros and cons
- Free plan finds malware without a credit card
- Scans run on MalCare servers, not your hosting
- Cleanup is included on Repair and Fortify instead of charged per incident
- Clear 1-site and 5-site pricing
- Free plan detects but does not remove malware
- Only annual billing on paid plans
- WordPress only
Which plan to choose
A small blog can start on Free and upgrade if a scan finds something. Business sites that depend on leads usually fit Repair, because cleanup is included and scans run twice a day. MalCare positions Fortify for online stores where an hour offline costs money: hourly scans, 6-hour expert response and a host-suspension recovery service.
Alternatives
Wordfence and Sucuri are the best-known alternatives. Wordfence's free firewall is strong, but cleanup is a separate paid service; Sucuri bundles a CDN-level firewall. MalCare's advantage is bundled automatic cleanup at a fixed yearly price.
